Reviewing my most recent roll of 35mm film

Oh hey ! I'm back !

Life has been good and EXTREMELY busy in the last couple of months. I've just started back at school for another hectic semester, and have just started my new subjects (Vis-com & Photography to name a few!). They all feel so right and have me so excited for what I will be able to learn and the experiences I will be able to get out of them. I've been spending too much money on cafe food and too much time sleeping in and enjoying my new ROOM. Yes ! You heard that correctly ! After 6 long years with a dark purple wall, I finally painted all my walls white, got some all new brand spanking furniture, and I splurged on a unbelievably beautiful blush pink linen bed cover. Good times for sure !

Anyway, let's get into what today's post is all about ...

Back in March, I was generously given a Minolta SRT 101 film camera from my Grandpa to play around with. Before then, I surprisingly had never shot on film (other than on my refurbished Polaroid Camera) which is absolutely CRAZY thinking back at it now as shooting on film has quickly become one of my favourite ways to photograph my life and the things around me.

After shooting for a total of 4 months, I recently got around to developing my first roll. I was absolutely terrified as to how the photos would turn out, but to my surprise, they weren't even  T H A T  bad. I know, what a miracle.

And these are the results ! Being my first roll ever, I am actually quite happy with it. Obviously, not all the photos that I took worked out in my favour, and making sure that I had set the correct exposure and aperture deemed a little difficult at times. This is probably down to the fact that the camera is 30+ years old, doesn't have a working light metre and my lack of experience with this medium.

Anyway, here are 12 out of the 36 photos from the roll - I would show you more but a few are of family and others simply didn't work out.  Some are blurry, and some have pretty wacky lighting, but I really do love that about film photography - even the photos that don't have what most would consider as "good" lighting, usually end up having the most character, and end up being my favourite photos.

*All photos were shot on a Minolta SRT 101, with AGFA VISTA 400 film

1. One of my favourite walls in Melbourne -  Spring St, Fitzroy

3. A damn cute car - not much else to say !

4. Photo of myself in the bathroom mirror on a family holiday back in April

5. The first photo I ever took on film! I absolutley love how the afternoon light is shining on the bright green leaves of that vine - so magical

12. pretty beautiful autumn colours

So there you go ! I can't wait to shoot more on film, continue to learn more about how I can improve my skills, and take even better photos in the future to come.

I hope this has inspired you all to branch out from taking photos on digital cameras and to have a crack at film photography, or even rekindle your passion for it. Also, let me know if you all like this type of photography content because I would love to make sharing my film photos and various experiences with this medium more common on my blog.

Till next time,

Right Now - March

My loves! It has been a really long time. In all honesty, i've been stuck in a big black hole full of school & work, that I haven't had much time to create much content for this space. My poor blog looks quite blue and abandoned but I promise, I'm always thinking about it.

So, how have you all been? I've really been quite great, thanks for asking. I thought I'd do a catch-up post to get you all updated on what's happening in my life at the moment, behind the screen.

Life has definetly been keeping me super busy. In the times where I'm not almost falling asleep over a desk doing a million maths equations at school, you would most often find me working on my studio art portfolio, making what probably would be my 5th cup of tea for the day, and/or cooking in the kitchen while jamming out to my favourite tunes (more on the topic of music a bit later on). My new job has also been keeping me very occupied as I've had to wake up for work most Saturday mornings at ridiculously early hours, but hey, that's life for you.

Everything about Film Photography ! I recently picked up a Holga 120 CFN, and was given my Grandpa's old film camera ( a Minolta SRT 101) to play around with. I've always been interested in film photography, but I have never gotten around to getting a camera, and buying the film. (Ok, I haven't bought film yet, that's for next week's adventure). My Hogla takes 120mm film, and the Minolta is 35mm which is great, as I will be able to experience shooting with a more simple "point and shoot" camera, and a more complex SLR camera. I'm planning to pick up some rolls of film before the Easter holidays start so I can have lots of time to have fun and experiment with this new medium. Overall, I'm very excited to be doing more photography these days !

Despite the fact that every day I’m scrolling through Spotify, be it on the way home after a long day, or through a speaker whilst cleaning up, I often forget to properly share it on here because it’s as regular and normal to me as brushing my hair or working at my desk.

I often make playlists each month, so if your in need of some new tunes to listen to, i've got you covered.

Loads and loads of Youtube! I've been really interested in Health & Nutrition as of now, and I've also been trying to limit my meat intake. I was having a little trouble with it all, up until I found Madeline Olivia on Youtube. Her videos are so helpful as she has made so many recipe videos on making vegetarian & vegan meals that are not only healthy, convenient and cheap, but also TASTY. I love how she also talks a lot about self care, mindfulness and healthy habits - something that I think we can all do more of and work on once and a while.

I also can't help but mentioning my current love for Rupaul's Drag Race, Season 10. There's something about the drag life & drama on this show that always seems to keep me hooked !

I recently was in desperate need for a new backpack for school, so after quite a few recommendations and quite a few hours researching online, I settled with a Fjallraven Kanken. It's been about 2 weeks since I first started using it, and I can happily say that it's probably one of the best purchaces I've ever made. The backpack is so practical for carrying my school books, as a daily bag and for traveling.

So yes, there’s a little life update from yours truly. The first term for 2018 has finally ended, which means Easter holidays are just around the corner - thank god. I have a heap of exciting events & a short weekend trip planned so I can't wait to share more of what's going on in my crazy, whirlwind of a life.

it's beginning to look alot like christmas

hello everyone - long time no talk ! Lot's has been happening since last time I posted here.

So, christmas is less than 1 month away and I thought that this would be a perfect time to share with you my christmas wish-list. Now, i'm not expecting to get all of these gifts , but I thought it would be helpful also to the people that don't really know what they want and need some ideas !

1 // DSLR CAMERA - i've had my eye on the Nikon D5500 for a while now, as well as some other cannon DSLRS ( specifically the EOS 1200d ). At the moment I usually borrow my family friends DSLR camera but would love one of my own. I would also love to start making videos and taking better quality photos, and I think having my own DSLR would really help me to do that.

2 // BLACK ARIZONA BIRKENSTOCK SANDALS - I've lived in Birkenstock sandals ever since I got my first pair when I was about 5. They are such comfortable shoes, but my old pair are way to small for me now, so I think its about time to get a new pair. I love these black ones as they are super simple and can go with every outfit. Perfect for summer coming up too !

3 // AESOP  RESURRECTION AROMATIQUE HAND BALM - this hand cream from one of my all time skincare brands, Aesop, has been on my wish-list for a very long time. I have the green one although i'm not the biggest fan of the scent ( quite a masculine scent, got it mainly for the looks, which was a very bad idea now thinking about it. I hardly use it too !! ). I tried the pink resurrection aromatique hand balm in the Aesop store in Melbourne a few weeks ago and could not stop saying to my friend how much I love the scent, feel and of course the look of the minimalistic packaging.

4 // ROSE GOLD + BLACK MIMCO PURSE - i've been in need for a new purse for a while now, and I absolutely LOVE this one from Mimco. Perfect for going out as I can fit my phone, cards and money in the one.

5 //  IKEA OFELIA WHITE THROW BLANKET - This super soft, fluffy blanket would look perfect on my bed. Super simple and goes with all decor around the year without it clashing with art prints and bed covers. I looked at this blanket at Ikea when I was last there, and now I really wished I bought it.

6 // GORMAN GIFTCARD - Gorman. My favourite shop in the whole entire world. Expensive, but in my opinion, SO TOTALLY WORTH EVERY SINGLE DOLLAR. I especially need a Gorman raincoat, so if i am really lucky this christmas, I would love to get one.

7// H&M GREY LINEN BED COVER - I love this bed cover so much !! Getting a linen bed cover has been up on the top things I want to do, but I haven't gotten around to it. I've latley started to make my room look minimalistic, and I think this bed cover would make all the difference.

And yes, i've realised that i've been a bit absent from blogging for the past month or so.  I've been so caught up in studying and working on other school things rather than taking photos and writing here like I wish I had been. i've really, really missed it. I've updated the look of the blog a bit to get me a little more excited about getting back into it again. I've also added a bit more info on my "about " page and added an archive page for easy reading !

love to you all,

JUNE TUNES + Update 01

Brrrr. It's cold.

OK so I have to say something first : I'm really sorry for all the times I've said " I'm gonna post but then I don't " thing. School is finally out for 2 weeks, and i'm more excited about life and the things it will bring in the coming month. I just gotta say, it's truthfully hard to juggle blogging and school, and on top of taking photos for my Instagram AND being able to just shut down and relax once and a while. Anyway, I wanted to say that I am trying to keep this blog alive and consistently putting up interesting content for you all.

So as you all know, it's now HOLIDAYS! YAY!  I'm probably gonna spend most of my time eating huge amounts of food, spending wayyy to much money on stuff I really don't need, baking sweet treats in the kitchen, bike riding around melbourne in search of the best cafe's and food, listening to good music, having a 3 day visit with my good friend I really cannot see enough, and not doing a single piece of dreaded homework ( why is holiday homework even a thing?) .

I just love how in the holidays you can do absolutely ANYTHING you want and pretty much all the plans you make are spontaneously made at the randomest of times. It's just the best feeling to have when you wake up really late in the morning, panicking and freaking out that you are super duper late for school and that your teachers are gonna kill the hell out of you, then realizing that it's holidays and that you don't need to do a damn thing with your life.

My family and I are also heading up to Apollo bay these holidays for a road trip which i'm super exited about. It's so nice to get out of the city and soak up the fresh, crisp air. The house we are staying at is smack down in the middle of the beach so expect some pretty awesome beach pics on my Instagram, despite that it's gonna probably be even colder up there than in Melbourne currently. Gosh the things people do for Instagram these days....

Anyway enough from me. I hope you enjoy this lil playlist I've made with some of my fave jams to get me out of the winter blues. Enjoy xx

Also, I gotta add, if you love music as much as me, go follow my spotify at "sylviaandme ". Yep, I made my username at the age of 11 and I can't work out how to change it.  Feel free to cringe at the name as much as you want.

much love,
